  Re: is Mindstorm/RCX Y2K Compliant???

(...) It's a microcontroller. Therefore it has an internal clock. Therefore it can suffer from Y2K, if it hasn't been removed. (...) No it's not. We're not even close to getting everything away. How do you think we will fare if the world's (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Off topic [was Re: is Mindstorm/RCX Y2K Compliant???)

(...) The most likely scenario is that so many people are in such a tizzy about Y2K that there will be runs on banks throughout the civilized world before the end of the year, causing total economic collapse. Ignorance, not computer bugs, are the (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

This is getting way out of hand... (...) If it doesn't know what year it is, then it can't have a Y2K problem! And even if it would know about the year, and even if there was a Y2K bug, I don't think it would matter much. In the worst case, your (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: is Mindstorm/RCX Y2K Compliant???

(...) No, just because it has a microcontroller in it doesn't mean it will stop working in 2000. Russell is absolutely right. If it doesn't know what the year is (you never tell it) it doesn't know when Y2K is going to happen. There are too many (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: is Mindstorm/RCX Y2K Compliant???

(...) What do you mean by "internal clock?" You seem to indicate that the microcontroller inside the RCX somehow knows the date. It does not. The only "clock" inside the microcontroller is a counter that counts cycles. It starts at zero when you (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

A more likey reason for a crash is that people will actually believe all these predictions that the markey will crash and try to convert everything to cash. Jasper Janssen wrote in message <36a3cf2e.46618061@l...et.com>... ... (...) ... (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Only, ONLY, if it uses date arithmetic that crosses the Y2K boundary. Your ancient PC, that has not been upgraded, will function just fine on Jan 1 2000, regardless. It may not be showing you the correct date, because of the rollover, and (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Actually, The way the markets have been going lately is that it is just as likely that bargain hunters will be waiting for just such an occurence so they can get some good deals.   Re: is Mindstorm/RCX Y2K Compliant???

(...) this is a complete crock. The H8 inside the RCX does not fall into the category of chips that "keep absolute time internally." See the H8 specs for details. In fact, this thread is a complete joke. -Kekoa (25 years ago, 20-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)
