Very interesting. Fairly small, and I imagine it moves pretty quick.
Actually, in the application I want it for, it will be cranked by hand, so
a motor isn't needed at all.

I once built one of these, just to see how it worked. It's pretty ingenious. I
kept adding worm gears to see how big I could make it. Once you add more than
two, there's a big gap in between the gears and the end of the housing you
build
for it. That means the worm gears can slide up and down the axle slightly and
separate the thread, which will either jam the mechanism or cause it to skip
over and over. I think you can fill that gap with one of the really thin old
bevel gears, but I never tried it.

Hmm...I wonder why that is? You would think that the worms would be of the
same geometry forms. Well, I'll just try it and see. Your worms didn't
happen to be worn down, did they?
