I just bought 2 packs, and 36 links appears to be a direct replacement for
one of the rubber treads, but I haven't tried it yet. They sure do seem to
have a lot less friction!

Unfortunately they slip well on ground too!

(...) Didn't you try to glue piece of rubber to the side that is in contact with ground? It should help. (If you aren't LEGO purist, of course - in that case you shouldn't even read it! They're still available at Pitsco-Dacta for $7.50 a pack of 36 links, but they probably don't ship overseas. Someone is always selling a couple packs on eBay for $9.99, maybe he'll ship overseas.
