I love their modularity, but they are much less than optimal for all the
other aspects.

looking at the links it would seem to me that you could increase the tread
over rough terrain by adding grip plates to the bottom.  or maybe slip
plates would actually create some sort of a limited slip that could help,

of course i haven't slept in three days so i could be a little delusional.
