    Lego/RCX IRPD —John Barnes
Does anyone have any practical experience using devices like the Sharp IRPD with the RCX? What do you use it for? What sort of range does your application require? What sort of measurement rate is necessary? If you haven't tried one of these things (...) (24 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: Lego/RCX IRPD —Dennis Clark
John, Your absolute best bet is the Sharp GP2D12 because it outputs an analog voltage proportional to the distance to a detected object. However, it wants a Vcc of 4.5-5.5V so you'll need to put a regulator on it and use the well-known RCX power (...) (24 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Logo style Turtle, anyone? —Bill & Sue Margolis
Greetings all, (...) a rotary sensor), I would like to be able to create a logo-style turtle -- i.e. able to do pen up, pen down, move, turn, and so able to produce programmed geometries. Has anyone done this? Being new to legos (alas), I would (...) (24 years ago, 23-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Logo style Turtle, anyone? —Andy Gombos
For the pen up and down, use a gear rack assembly attachec to the pen and to a motor/guide assembly on the robot. Make it a differential drive robot with a differential linked rotation sensor found on Jonathan Knudsen (I porbably butchered that, and (...) (24 years ago, 23-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Logo style Turtle, anyone? —Mario Ferrari
(...) of (...) Surprisingly enough, I'm currently building such a thing. I thought that nobody has already had this idea :-) Sorry no pictures yet, but I'm glad to share my approach. As Andy said, make it a differential drive. Very important: keep (...) (24 years ago, 24-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Logo style Turtle, anyone? —Rob Stehlik
(...) Well, I have done this very thing. This was actually one of my earlier mindstorms projects. I used a differential drive and a rack and pinion pen lifting mechanism as described by another individual. The beauty of the differential drive is (...)          Re: Logo style Turtle, anyone? —Ralph M. Deal
(...) Not that I know of. I wanted to do this years ago when I first got Mindstroms and quickly realized that I needed either a rotation sensor or a servo motor in order to turn each wheel a precise angle. Since that time there have been numerous (...) (23 years ago, 24-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

quad motor board for JCX (with Lego connectors) is out and works —Bruce Boyes
Here are photos and schematics of our quad motor driver board for Legos and other small DC motors: (URL) board has been tested and is currently running a couple of MindStorms robots. We expect it to be featured in a keynote demonstration at JavaOne, (...) (23 years ago, 24-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Logo style Turtle, anyone? —Miles Gentry
Look at pen-drawing wheeled vehicle starting at (URL) images 02 through 07). You could modify it for pen up/down. The RIS sets have newer gear-reduced motors instead of the older fast motors shown, so you will need to change the gearing. (...) (23 years ago, 2-Jun-01, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: Lego/RCX IRPD —Rainer Balzerowski
Hi John, Yes, I've got practical experiences with these sharp devices. I've got three of them (GP2D12) and attached them to a little 6wheeled robot. They are "looking" forward. One straight forward, one 45° left, one 45° right. I can avoid obstacles (...) (24 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

        Re: Lego/RCX IRPD —Steven Nickle
John, I am working on a setup that Rainer Balzerowski and Stephen Edwards havew talked about to allow for up to 15 sensor. My ideal design uses about 7 sensors. Two crossing in the front, Two crossing in the back One pointing to each side and One (...) (24 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)
