There are only 3 9V motors in the Lego product line today:
- the geared motor as found in the Mindstorms sets. This is the one that has
a cube like shape, with lots of irregularities.
- the ungeared motor. This is sort of the classic 9V Technic motor. It has a
rectangular case, like a small battery box, without any irregularities. Only
recommended for applications where you need more speed than the geared motor
can provide.
- the micromotor. It's bright red, and not much bigger than a 2x2 brick.
It's suitable for steerings, moving small arms, etc., or wherever you don't
have a lot of space for a motor, and don't need a lot of power. It turns
really, really slow.

Just as an addendum, there's also the 9V train motor, although that isn't
easily transferrable since the contact points are on moving parts, etc...

Actually, a motor block with two axles (...) (24 years ago, 11-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)
