Announcing the Seattle Mindstorms and Robotic Techies

After the November 6th "Workshop 3D LEGO RCX Challenge" in Seattle, Gus Jansson and I decided it was time to start a LEGO Robot specific group in this area. Well, it's about a month later, and we're through talking, time for some action! So this is (...)   Re: vision command idea...

thanks bob, i guess i should have looked down a little further for that scan at brickshelf... that was exactly what i was talking about. after doing some searching i found out that it is called "Central Steering" (?) that is all. m. Bob Fay (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Help with my robot

(...) Especially when they have to turn in opposite directions, as in the case of a standard differential drive robot (with one motor driving the left and the other the right side of the robot)! This is because a motor is always more efficient (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: another solution/problem

You could use the 6-Leg Walker "Mushi Mushi 7" at (URL) in the "Master Builder Tutorial" as the platform for experimentation. I thought the design was real good, ie, symmetrical and with no extra parts used. My only reservation was that 'turning' (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Help with my robot

Bob Fay's suggestion is a good one, here's another option: Drive both sides with a single motor via a differential, add a rack + pinion steering to the front, or, if you have a second differential, create a mixing differential for a skid-steered (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  another solution/problem

i as thinking about this when i was playing with the new cyber spider www.wowwee.com ] with legs on both sides usually youdon't want the robot to move in such a way that it is bouncing up and down synchronously it just doesn't look right.... so what (...)   Re: vision command idea...

i'm sorry if i offended anyone but i got like a ton of email from people saying that i should use a synchro drive and it is exactly the opposite of what i was looking for... the super car was more on the track but i didn't look at it closely enough (...)   Re: Help with my robot

(...) As lots of other people have said - you really need rotation sensors. If you don't have one - then a line-follower is an option (as other people have also suggested)...or I *suppose* you could put a bright light at either end of your 15 foot (...)   Re: Code Pilot is Fantastic RCX add-on!

(...) Yo :-) Having had a good look at the Barcode Truck set and having acquired some parts from it last weekend, I have to say that Doug is entirely correct in recommending this set, as it is superb in all regards. Definitely on a par with the (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Axle joiner angles

Oops. It looks like in your list you exchanged the labels of #3 and #5. And it occurs to me that the splines had to be set so that the half bushings could be pushed together and lock when on the same axle. I would have to take a look to see if that (...)   Re: Help with my robot

(...) 4. Measure the deviation and correct it by a small turn every now and then. (this is what I did when I first got my RIS and wanted it to take a tour of my flat, total length about 15m with a few turns). This avoids use of rotation sensor or (...)   Re: Help with my robot

(...) You will probably need a rotation sensor to ensure that the robot is travelling in a straight line. No two LEGO motors will rotate at the same speed, so you will always encounter drift when driving a robot. I can think of three solutions: 1. (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Help with my robot

My first suggestion would be a swivel wheel in the front to make turning easier for the bot. The only solution to your programming would be two rotation sensors to aid in running straight and to measure the distance that you have traveled. This (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Help with my robot

I got a problem. I have a simple two motor robot that I want to have a push button cause the following: 1 hit the push button 2 robot turns 180 deg and move forward 3. after 15 feet robot stops 4 repeat 1 - 3 The problme i am having is that the (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Axle joiner angles

I think these just correspond to the splines on the old connectors which they replace. I haven't checked it, but I think the splines are every 12.5 degrees. The connectors are too chunky to make accute angles, so they only do the obtuse angles: 0.0 (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Code Pilot is Fantastic RCX add-on!

And I just got one for my Birthday! It took coaching a FIRST LEGO League team, but I *finally* have my parents (and my in-laws) convinced that 33 is NOT too old for LEGO :-) -Peter Coach, FLL Team #1096: The Unibots #2 in California State (...)   RE: Floating boats

There are still boat bodies that float. I recently bought some police/rescue-style set at Costco in California that contains one. Or how about 6429 - Lego City Blaze Responder. Tilman (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Floating boats

(...) Do you mean the parts about 11x10 for the midpiece and a frontpiece with an eye in front edge and a back piece that's round at its back end ? If so. i've got three of the middle pieces, a front piece and a back piece (with a little piece (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Floating boats

Sadly, lego seems to have discontinued their nice old boat pieces which floated. I have an interest in a fairly significant quantity of these (I want to build some bi- and tri-hull boats.) Does anyone know where I might get some of these? Obviously, (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)
