I've been trying to look for a compact limited slip differential design,
and the most compact design I could come up with is one in which a small
pulley piece is put inside of the differential.

To do this, first put together the differential with the three small
gears inside, then insert between the two axles, in the middle of the
differential, the pulley that comes with the micromotor.  This pulley
has a cross-shaped hole in one end, and on the other end has a rubber
O-ring.  The side with the cross-shaped hole attaches firmly to one
axle, while the other end with the rubber O-ring grabs onto the other
axle via friction.

And just as a useless fact, the "claw clutch" part that was referred to
earlier in this thread is called a "synchro", in cartalk.

(...) Nice :-) (...) Time for the pedant to strike again - I think you are right in saying that this part serves a similar purpose to a synchro in a real car, but the real one gradually sychronises the speeds of the axle and the "idler" gear so that (...) (...) This is an excellent observation Simon, I had noticed that the bits on the the small gear on the differential were similar to that on the 16 tooth idler gears, but had never actually put 2 and 2 together and come up with the idea of using the (...)
