  NQC 2.5 a3 released

Anoter beta release of NQC at: (URL) one is really just an accumulation of minor features that I have added upon request for people (-R, goto, short branches, etc). Dave (23 years ago, 1-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Re: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

(...) (Do you mean the "Lift Fan"? The "Thrust Fan" is the one that pushes the hovercraft forwards.) In the case of the lift fan, yes - because the pressure of the air in the skirt is higher than the air above the fan, it'll leak out anyway it can - (...)   Vision Command under Linux / Kylix

I've got a cheap VC package and started to play with it. Working mostly under Linux with brickOS, I would like to program the cam under Linux. It was no big problem to get it to work. I tested it with the xawtv program. Looks pretty good. Next step (...) (23 years ago, 1-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.vc)

  Re: Robolab - lejOS communication

(...) Mario, Lejos supports communication using the original firmware opcodes via the Serial class, but, apart from program download, this is designed for executing opcodes, not downloading data. F7Handler and F7DeliveryHandler are part of and (...) (23 years ago, 1-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx.java, lugnet.robotics.rcx.robolab)

RE: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

Brushless DC motors, such as those used in PC cooling fans, won't generate enough power, even if the voltage is increased. This is because they actually have a switching circuit that changes polarity of the electromagnetic coils. I've gotten a small (...) (23 years ago, 1-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  BrickOS

I would like share a success story to give encouragement to others. I was able to get BrickOS 0.2.6.09 installed on my computer. I'm far from being a computer expert and would consider myself a beginner. I didn't use the pre-built compiler available (...) (23 years ago, 1-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  RCX Tank Base

(...) A rotating disk with one or two teeth is much easier and very effective. You can store a lot of energy that way. My finger still hurts from where I was experimenting yesterday with a 5cm steel bar on a cheap motor. With an axe it's difficult (...) (23 years ago, 1-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: hovercraft

Paul, this looks really impressive. For such nice developments I alwasy have room, so if you're interested to make use of the space I've avaiable, contact me at nospam_s.mientki@mailbox.kun.nl (remove "nospam_") best regards, Stef Mientki (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: hovercraft

Pixel: Congratulations. (...) WOW!! I want to type a bunch of stuff.. but I'm overwhelmed. (...) One small point. If you have access to a volt meter, could you check if your wall transformer really is putting out 12Vdc. Many of those adjustable (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

serial tower programming driver for windows 2000?

Suggestion: Provide precompiled Cygwin h8300 gcc+binutils, downloadable via Cygwin setup.

Compiling your own compiler is undoubtably the hardest barrier of entry to brickos. I suggest that the h8300 binutils and gcc be distributed as Cygwin packages from the brickos website. This would simplify the install to merely running Cygwin setup, (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

(...) We're not talking about hovercraft here at -all-. We -are- talking about the assertion that 'mass is equivalent to weight on the planet Earth'. It isn't, ever. A vector is -never- equivalent to a scalar, basic dimensional analysis; basic (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

(...) And if we were talking about a hovercraft in an elevator - I'd be agreeing with you. Dumb pedantry doesn't work here. The **WEIGHT** of the hovercraft is just as important/relevent/applicable as the **MASS** of the hovercraft when we are (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

(...) Ok, remember you asked... Let's take example 1- You're in an elevator. The elevator goes down. Your weight decreases but your mass does not. Q: Where did the weight go? Did you mass change? Example 2- Take a 1lb weight and a scale. Scenario a: (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

(...) How? It seems to me that as long as acceleration due to gravity is constant (i.e. same altitude, same planet; in this case, 9.8 m/s/s) then weight and mass have a simple proportional relationship. (23 years ago, 30-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: "real" LEGO Hovercraft ? (with/without batteries/RCX "onboard")

(...) So long as we are down here on the surface of the earth talking about the air pressure under the skirt of a hovercraft and whether it'll lift or not, weight and mass are equivelent concepts.
