Re: brickOS & GNU Pascal (update)

(...) Pascal/OOP definitely adds a bit of overhead. It is possible that some of that overhead could be lessened by tweaking the Pascal headers. I'm going to fiddle a bit with a couple of different approaches to see what works best now that I have a (...) (23 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: Jamocklaquat - Spine Segment 1

(...) Thanks, it was fun testing it and being able to give you a real answer. (...) I took apart the Praying Mantis. I am using the Blue Technic from the Legs and frame. So in reusing the Bulk of the material from the legs I was able to make what (...) (23 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  HB DC Motors

Please help me. All the commands from IC to HB work fine.e.g. analog test, digital test, printf to LCD, etc. But, when I write the command "beep();" the board makes a continuous noise and freezes up. IC reports "board not responding. Same thing (...) (23 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Definitive Guide, 2nd Edition

Some shameless self-promotion... The 2nd edition of Definitive Guide to Lego Mindstorms has just been published. Most of the RCX Code programs have been updated to take advantage of 2.0 features, and there are some new RCX Code programs as well. (...) (23 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Great work John! Do you have any comparisons of executable sizes between C/C++ and Pascal/OOP? ROSCO (23 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: Jamocklaquat - Spine Segment 1

A very concise answer, although it still seems like a miraculous piece of engineering. I'm surprised the motor can handle so much arm weight. Thanks for the extra pics. A side question, which may have been asked before, how did you get so much (...) (23 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  swarming robots born from StarLogo

StarLogo "Developed ...at MIT ...with support from ...the LEGO Group" might give us a clue about the future of LEGO robotics controllers and programming even though it does not appear to currently work with any LEGO product. The full quote comes (...) (23 years ago, 31-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Jamocklaquat - Spine Segment 1

Ok, this may be a silly question but.....Jamocklaquat must be immensly heavy, how do you go about giving motors enough power to actually move elements such as the arms (from the shoulder) or the spine with the wieght of the body on it?   Re: Please suggest which RIS version is good

I think you may be right about the software differences-- like I said, I've only used 2.0. Still, if you can get a good deal on an older version, grab it. Remember, you can upgrade to the 2.0 software for only $20 (search shop.lego.com for "2.0 (...) (23 years ago, 31-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Please suggest which RIS version is good

Generall, I think they are all good. 2.0 software is somewhat improved (I haven't used the older versions, so I can't say precisely how much), and each kit includes slightly different pieces, but I think the differences are fairly minor. The one (...) (23 years ago, 31-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

  Re: Problem with auto-steering mechanism.

(...) That's *not* entirely obvious. There is a tradeoff between ease of twisting of the turntable and ease of slippage in forward drive. A nice chunky tyre with tons of grip is hard to twist - which makes the robot drive forwards better without (...) (23 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.robotics)
