We're trying to use the little radio shack IR transmitter and reciever units to build our own. We're not sure exactly how this will work, but before we get too far, is this a reasonable thing to do? I believe there is a problem with the theory used in the article. He talks about using the Radio Shack emitter/detectors to do some 180 deg Detection. He's talking about using multiple emitters and detectors as proximity detectors. (much like using (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

The Keyspan adapters are still a bit of a grey area. I've had several reports of them working just fine, and one report of it not working at all. I'm still trying to isolate this problem (which affects NQC and presumably MacNQC). The tweak in MacNQC (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Hi all, I am selling laser modules for Mindstorms. The modules are two 2x6 lego bricks one on top of the other with a plate on the bottom. It has a wire with a lego power connector on the end attached to one end, and the laser sticks out about 1mm (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Forgive my ignorance with respect to robotics and the like but what would you do with a laser? Is it used for guiding the robot or can the RCX detect when the beam is broken? I don't assume it is used to zap dirty dishes from the dinner table. <g> (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Yeah. In can't think of anything that a laser could be used for. Unless you had reflective walls and could use it as a range finder. Sort of like an ultrasonic range finder, only with light. I wonder if the timing could be done fast enough. Andy (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I think a laser would be very useful for vaporizing pesky obstacles, I'd like mine to be a CO2 @ 50 Watts please....Blue bricks would be just fine :>)) Seriously, a laser might be an interesting source of light for a homing beacon.
