Re: inncorrect instruction scan on brickshelf

(...) I've scanned quite a few of mine from the '80's and submitted them, but haven't seen anything show up on Brickshelf. No response what-so-ever. I figure that if nothing happens and there is no response, it's not worth my time. Kevin's probably (...) (22 years ago, 23-Sep-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

Re: Semi-OT: Need info on domain name purchasing

(...) options. I recently registered a couple of domains with joker.com and their fee is only EUR 12,00 per year (US$11.93 as of 9/17). And that includes primary & secondary DNS, with a handy web interface to update it! (...) I used to have a DSL (...) (22 years ago, 23-Sep-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

Re: Semi-OT: Need info on domain name purchasing

(...) <snip> (...) You probably already know, but registering a domain name and getting more bandwidth are two different things. You can get more bandwidth, more webspace, or more hosting services without necessarily having your own domain name, but (...) (22 years ago, 23-Sep-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

Bill, It's clear that you've made up your mind, as have I. Ok, no biggie, but I can see that our debate is starting to go in circles now. I'm not turning on javascript for the simple reason that I don't need it -- the vast majority of the sites I (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) I checked stats on my site (just my stuff, since the site actually has some more techhie content elsewhere)-- about 86% of the last 500K+ hits were MSIE, 12% Netscape/Mozilla. Most of the rest were bots, or things like Scooter, Opera, etc. If (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) It hasn't been a risk for a long time. Some early browsers had Javascript security risks, but they were fixed years ago. It's nothing like the ActiveX risks in MSIE - but luckily few sites use ActiveX, so that's safe to turn off (if you must (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) So-- you could see the images on the crawler page ok? Huh... considering that they were in onmouseovers and onmouseouts, I'm again amazed... The default images when I looked were for invalid urls... huh... DaveE (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) Ah, bummer. I'm sorry to be such a pill. FWIW, I was able to see the UCS Tie Crawler page once someone gave me the URL for it -- the images on that load just fine. Cheers, - jsproat (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

Dave, I've been using Homestead for the past couple of years and haven't had much problems with them. Regular viewers of the site know that most of the pics shown have the hidden pic every now and then. Unfortunately, the Homestead software creates (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

Jeremy, The Homestead software creates the javascript behind the scenes. All of the webpages are done through it and there's no easy way of getting around it. Sorry, I know it's not the answer you were looking for. Regards, ACPin & Sons (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) I didn't go nuts investigating, but it looked like it preloads the images into Javascript objects, creates links around each image, then each link has an onmouseover/onmouseout that affects the contents of the image within the link. Meanwhile (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) What does it do, anyway? (...) Nope. Nothing but a black b/g with a grey grid and grey stars. And the black-on-black <noscript> text that is visible only before the background image loads. Cheers, - jsproat (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) Wow. That's really wacky Javascript. I'm really rather amazed that Homestead makes such awfully complex Javascript for such an apparently small effect. But that's beside the point. I think you'll find that the code that's the problem is the (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) *shrug* Until four things happen: (1) Javascript becomes less of a security/stability risk, and (2) ECMA officially becomes an integral part of the HTML standard, and (3) Microsoft and Mozilla and whoever else can agree on a common DOM, and (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Unviewable page, useless warning (Was: UCS TIE Crawler)

(...) Is Javascript even required? It seems to me that you could probably display the pictures without needing it. (...) Nope, sorry. I turn Javascript off by principle, especially when viewing websites on so-called free webservers. It really mucks (...) (22 years ago, 16-Sep-02, to lugnet.publish)
