nothing like the ActiveX risks in MSIE - but luckily few sites use

The HTML standard is whatever Microsoft says it is, at this point. IE
has such a total domination of the market that any browser that
doesn't support what IE supports is doomed.

I'd rather have sites I visit work than avoid the ads, personally, so
I just ignore them. But there are ad-killer programs you can run to
block the ads.

Then you won't be able to get much out of a great number of sites.

I don't have actual numbers, but the vast majority of users are using
IE and never even look at their configuration settings. It's only a
small minority of power users (like you and me) who take pleasure in
adjusting the preferences for software. Most people dread the
prospect of configuring their computers, and have no concept of
security risks...
