Re: Pirate Project

(...) Blue water, red death? Yes, I like to switch hulls and rigging around to create ships with different looks. (...) I find myself snagging bits and pieces at auctions that I have no current use for, but will probably need for just such projects (...) (24 years ago, 8-May-00, to lugnet.pirates, lugnet.build)

Re: What class of ship is the BSB?

(...) Confused. The hull is meant to be reminiscent of a galleon with its high castles. But galleons usually had three masts, not two. The Skull's Eye Schooner is a closer to a galleon with the third mast mounting a lateen sail. The mizzenmast could (...) (24 years ago, 8-May-00, to lugnet.pirates)

 Pirate Project

This weekend I finally sat down and started on my "Red Seas Barracuda". My original intent for the RSB was to use Red Beard Runner hulls, and build a ship using the BSB directions but using dark grey instead of black as much as possible, and red (...) Hi. (...) I was waiting for this. I tossed you a soft pitch, and fully expected you to hit it out of the park. ;) (...) Oooh, thanks. I was more concerned about how it has historically been employed. "Bomb Ketch" is what I'm most familiar with. (...) (24 years ago, 7-May-00, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: Uncertain Definition of a Ship Type...?

(...) a (...) Not necessarily. While it isn't necessarily anything of a statement about real ships, take a look at the Skull's Eye Schooner. The mizzenmast is just about above the tail edge of the rudder. I looked through my ship books, and didn't (...) (24 years ago, 7-May-00, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: Uncertain Definition of a Ship Type...?

(...) FWIW... From GuruNet: "ketch (kĕch) n. Nautical. A two-masted fore-and-aft-rigged sailing vessel with a mizzenmast stepped aft of a taller mainmast but forward of the rudder." Just don't ask me what that means. Mizzenmast, hurmph. (and me (...) (24 years ago, 6-May-00, to lugnet.pirates)

 Toss me a line someone?

Ok, the story is I'm about to get my hands on a Sea Lion (Caribbean Clipper for those who are nomologically challanged). Eventually I'll find it's way into The Governor's pacific fleet but at the moment it's on the wrong side of Australia's only (...) (24 years ago, 6-May-00, to lugnet.pirates)
