The RTS Zavala Steamship-of-War —Kurt Baty
I am pleased to announce my newest MOC The RTS Zavala Steamship-of-War (URL) This vessel is a side-paddle-wheel sailing steamship. The model is almost 4 1/2 feet long (1.36 meters) and it uses 13 hull center sections. Although called a schooner, the (...)      (...) Wonderful job Kurt! Your scale is massive compared to the "set scale" of my shipbuilding. What was the build-time for this? I'm particularly impressed that you were able to base this on hull pieces and yet the scale still works. I too like the (...) (16 years ago, 16-Dec-08, to lugnet.pirates, FTX)

Re: The RTS Zavala Steamship-of-War —Kurt Baty
(...) Thanks! (...) The RTS Zavala is approximately minifig scale, it's 1.2 feet per stud. (...) I worked on it off and on over the last 2 1/2 years. (...) The scale was set by the width of the hull center pieces with two rows of inverted slopes on (...) (16 years ago, 16-Dec-08, to lugnet.pirates, FTX)

(...) snip (...) Oh I'm enjoying!! That's fantastic!! The detail is amazing! I'd love to see a vid of the pistons/paddle wheels! The back detail is perfectly done--I love it! Very nicely done! Dave K (16 years ago, 16-Dec-08, to lugnet.pirates, FTX)

(...) I got the Zavala filmed and uploaded to youtube A video walk along, and use of the ships wheel. (URL) Zavala 1> I run the Lego pneumatic side-paddle-wheel walking-beam steam engines. (URL) Zavala 2> enjoy kurt (15 years ago, 30-Dec-08, to lugnet.pirates, lugnet.technic, FTX)

Hey, I just let both videos play. Really cool! The first one gives a good impression of the shape and size of this very well built MOC. Thanks! The second video showing the pistons and paddle wheel action, wow! That is so amazing! Great job! I (...) (15 years ago, 31-Dec-08, to lugnet.pirates, lugnet.technic)

(...) Awesome work, Kurt. A great model of a vessel from an interesting but oft overlooked period. (Which is odd, because as you demonstrate, the length/width ratio of vessels was changing to a more LEGO-friendly one). Spotlighted! Cheers Richie (...)      (...) I am glad you liked it! (...) The ability to build the hull is what lead me down the trail to the briar-patch of design issues in building the Zavala, OK so I had fun...         Re: The RTS Zavala Steamship-of-War —Eric Sophie
That MOC is amazingly cool! So many details to see, I think the construction is very interesting. From the stem to stern. From the way you rigged the lines above the prow, to the very nice looking sails, to the way you expanded the hull, to the way (...) (16 years ago, 17-Dec-08, to lugnet.pirates)

(...) Sorry I'm so late to the party, but I've been, well, long story. Anyway, this is beautiful, Kurt. Very lovely, and I particularly like the gallery and sail cuts. Now we only must wean you from using hull sections... LFB (15 years ago, 24-Jun-09, to lugnet.pirates, FTX)
