Is there any way to have my client authenticate to the lugnet news server using my lugnet membership login and password instead of having to manualy authorize each individual post. Do the regular members that post a lot really confirm each and every (...) (22 years ago, 11-Apr-03, to lugnet.people.newbie)

My quick answer is this: Every fan of LEGO who wants to be part of this community is. No need to post on a website, to have a folder on Brickshelf or be member of BrickLink, a LUG or the FLL... Over the better part of the last year, I've done a lot of thinking about the LEGO hobby and the LEGO community, trying to develop a philosophy on it which I use to channel my efforts, energies, and interactions.
