(...) There's probably a better way for the LEGO track, but I do know that there is a small saw-thingy that you can get at model railroad/hobby stores for cutting model railroad track. (...) The tool of choice would have to be the (URL) and then a very sharp razor knife and a jewel saw. The metal rails on a track can be removed with out cutting, you can just pry them off. jt (19 years ago, 20-May-05, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Having has a look at the other side of the board I have decided to leave the coil as it and move the two switches to the (...) (19 years ago, 20-May-05, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

I have a question for a very novice modder.... Let's just say... someone wanted to cut some Lego train track... what fairly common, and inexpensive tool could an novice with a limited tool selection/budget to attempt said mod? (...) That is definatly a tuning coil. You may be able to swap the coil to the opposite side of the board, but adding long wire would be a vey bad idea. If you swap it, orientation is very important. You will need to mark it's oreintation on the (...) (19 years ago, 19-May-05, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Ideally it would be good to unsolder it and place it on the other side of the board but that probably won't be possible. If it was a coil+ferrite core would (...) (...) Tim, The "large thing" looks like some kind of coil+ferrite core to me. AFAIK That is really part of the tuned circuit for the radio reception. Has anyone had any experience with doing this? Basically I want to take the innards of one and put it in as small a 'brick' as possible, add a power input to allow connection of external battery box/es and a connector to allow remote connection of (...) Norbert, Lots of good info in there! Here's a couple of suggestions for painting/tinting clear parts that I learned from scale modeling: Future floor polish (USA product name) is actually a clear acrylic coating. It is self-leveling (fills minor (...) (19 years ago, 12-Apr-05, to lugnet.parts.mod)
