Re: My Big Phat RP Parts

(...) Ouch, how embarrassing! Well, Ben, take back everything I said! LOL. Actually, I WAS thinking of the right Ben.. When I saw the post I linked to above, I thought.. Ben+Trains+Cool=BBB. How was I to know there was another possible solution to (...) (22 years ago, 27-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.parts.custom, FTX)

Re: My Big Phat RP Parts

(...) Darrell, that's a different Ben. But I think LEGO ought to hire both of them. :-) (22 years ago, 27-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.parts.custom, FTX)

Re: My Big Phat RP Parts

(...) Thanks, Ben! Coming from you that means a lot! (...) I would also be interested in other people's results/trials. I suppose in a perfect world we could laser scan the parts, but... I don't know how far we in parts.custom want to venture into (...) (22 years ago, 27-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.parts.custom, FTX)

  Re: Liquid Plastics

(...) Hi - have you tried using an autoclave to reduce the bubbling? Darrell (22 years ago, 27-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.custom)

  Re: Liquid Plastics

(...) I use Smooth-on liquid plastics regularly with my other toy hobby, making custom action figures. The problem with using them to make LEGO-compatible parts is that these liquid resin plastics (like Alumilite, Micro-Mark, etc) are meant to be (...)   Re: Might this be very very cool?

(...) Yeah, that's the rub. Service bureaus have been around for a long time, and this isn't the first one that's been Internet based. There are places that will actually make injection molds for you over the net. It all comes down to how badly you (...) (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.custom, FTX)

  Re: Liquid Plastics

Oops, rats, I meant to post this to .custom. I've set the followup on this to there; please direct your replies there too. (Sorry about that, I'm a newbie!) Thanks, - Joe (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts)

  Liquid Plastics

Has anyone looked into this for making custom parts: (URL) It looks like pretty good stuff and could be a fairly cheap way to turn out medium-sized batches of hard plastic parts. Of course the tricky bit is making the mold... I haven't thought of a (...) (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts)

Re: My Big Phat RP Parts

<snip> (...) Way cool! Thanks for sharing. On the topic of scale. What I've determined is the following: the LDU to mm conversion is an exact conversion However: A 1x1 brick is only 7.8mm x 7.8mm and the studs are located 8.0mm for one another (...)   Re: Might this be very very cool?

(...) I can confirm it's pretty darn cool! Jason had a pointed top arch part he had designed a while ago that he shared images of with our club... it was one of the parts that got realised and shown at SIGGRAPH and at BrickLink. I thought it was (...) (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.custom, FTX)

Re: Might this be very very cool?

(...) Doh! Darn my unfamiliarity with the group hierarchy! And I was so excited when the new groups hit the scene, too. Anyway, I need to get started on my dream list of faux-clone parts. I wonder if I can justify a bulk purchase sufficient to make (...) (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.custom, FTX)

Re: Might this be very very cool?

(...) I agree. One note, this may be suited for parts.custom rather than just parts. Jason, who responded elsewhere in the thread has a fair bit of experience with .stl files for parts now, I think...   Re: Might this be very very cool?

(...) It might work, depending on what you are willing to pay for parts. Also it's worth noting that someone with access to a cad program would have to help, converting .dat files to .stl can make ugly .stl files. I've had experience with (URL) this (...)   Re: Might this be very very cool?

(...) That's funny. I just finished the very same article before coming over here to Lugnet. I was thinking the exact same thing. -Elroy (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts, lugnet.off-topic.geek, FTX)

Might this be very very cool?

I haven't run the prices yet, but could (URL) portend a source of original MOC parts? (URL) the website. It's a cool idea in any case. Dave! (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts, lugnet.off-topic.geek, FTX)

Re: how to remove center of 2x2 brick?

(...) I took a standard valve stem cap, cut the tip so it was flush in the brick and hot glued it into the 2x2 brick. (...) Those were given out at one of the previous BrickFest, 2002 I believe. (...) I wash them....a lot. jt (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Re: how to remove center of 2x2 brick?

(...) OK, as another Dodge Truck owner, I must ask: Is the 2X2 threaded, or did you just superglue it to the existing cap? Where did you get the brick bumper sticker? How do you keep the brake dust off your wheels? :) Darrell (22 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Re: how to remove center of 2x2 brick?

Thanks guys, that does sound pretty effective. And my wife will be happy that I don't need to go out and buy a new power tool! Best, - Joe (22 years ago, 25-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod)

Re: how to remove center of 2x2 brick?

(...) An alternate method: Use 1957 bricks :) Eric (22 years ago, 25-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Re: how to remove center of 2x2 brick?

(...) I concur with Rob's method, that is the exact same way that I removed the tube from 2x2 bricks when I made my (URL) custom valve stem caps>, works great and is easy to do. jt (22 years ago, 25-Aug-04, to lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)
