  Re: July 27th SMART meeting

(...) Just two more days until the meeting. I'll share some of the things I saw at BrickFest, as well as some info on the new Spybotics sets. -- David Schilling (22 years ago, 25-Jul-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  July 27th SMART meeting

The next SMART meeting is just under two weeks away. We'll meet on July 27th, at 2pm, in the Redmond Regional Library (room 2). The mini-challenge is to build a robot that can walk from a starting line to a finish line, while either going around, or (...) (22 years ago, 15-Jul-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Meeting ideas

I'm willing to give a couple of presentations. What sort of presentations does everyone want to have? I'm starting to dig into the internals of the RCX, standard firmware and NQC. Does anyone want a presentation on that? I think the important part (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jun-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Meeting ideas

(...) Personally I think it's a really good idea. The only question is, who is going to do the presentations? Volunteers are required. I don't want to have the same two or three people doing these over and over, it's not fair to them, as it can take (...) (22 years ago, 20-Jun-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Meeting ideas

Unfortunatly I will not be able to make the meeting next month. I have some ideas about possible improvments for the meetings. I think it would be great if we had some presentations or something like that to help us learn more about mindstorms and (...) (22 years ago, 18-Jun-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Challenge Ideas

I got the following in email from Larry. He also sent this to lugnet.org.us.smart@lugnet.com but it does not seem to appear on the lugnet smart page. Larry, you may want to check your registration on lugnet. | Please don't laugh if I'm way off base (...) (22 years ago, 23-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: Technic part that allows powered steering

(...) Drr. You're right. Sorry, I should have taken a closer look. Thanks for pointing that out. -- David Schilling (22 years ago, 23-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: Technic part that allows powered steering

(...) The set listed on Amazon is <set:8465> Extreme Off-Roader, the price is full retail ($40). The description listed on Amazon appears to be in error, although the part count and price are correct. Brickwise must be keying off of the description (...)   Technic part that allows powered steering

For those who went to the SMART meeting on Saturday, I showed a robot frame I was working on ((URL) would allow wheels to be steered and powered at the same time. There's very few technic parts that will let you do this, the one that I used ((URL) (...) (22 years ago, 23-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  May 2002 Meeting Notes

Today's SMART meeting was a tremendous success. Several dozen people showed up. At least seven people brought robots for the mini-challenge - locating a 100-watt lightbulb near the floor. Most of them were able to find the light even when it was not (...) (22 years ago, 19-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: Ideas for next RCX competition

(...) Thanks for the comments - but just so there's no confusion, the Workshop 3D RCX Challenge isn't sponsored or run by SMART. I'll make sure that Ray sees your comments. By the way, I also had a blast at the last competition! (...) I'm not sure (...) (22 years ago, 17-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Ideas for next RCX competition

I've now entered the last two contests, and seen the last three, and I'm getting some ideas on how it could potentialy be improved. Overall I still think it's a great contest, and run quite well. I had a blast every time I came! I think with the (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Gus wins another

Oh, I almost forgot: Gus also won a "Most Innovative Robot" award at Robothon 2002 for his RCX controlled helicopter! We've seen this slowly evolving at a couple of the SMART meetings. It has been a tremendous hit at both BricksWest, and at the (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Gus wins Line Maze! Also: Next SMART meeting on May 18th

Last weekend Gus Jansson participated in the Robothon 2002 at the Seattle Center. Last year he won first place with his LEGO maze-solver. This year competition was sure to be much more fierce (how can regular robot-heads let a *LEGO* robot win?!?) (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Robothon this weekend

Seattle Robotics Societies' Robothon is this weekend! Here is the announcement they sent out: Looking for something different to do this Saturday? Are you interested in high-tech gadgets? Take your family to a robot competition! Robothon 2002 May 4, (...) (22 years ago, 1-May-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Puck Gathering Mechanisms

(...) Thank you for describing these mechanisms! They are really cool, and it's quite instructive to see how you designed them. -- David Schilling (22 years ago, 28-Apr-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Challenge Ideas

(...) These are good ideas, Nathan. I've added them to our list of challenges for future meetings. You can find the current list by clicking on the "Next SMART Meeting" link on our news home page. There you'll find what the current challenge is, as (...) (22 years ago, 28-Apr-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Puck Gathering Mechanisms

I have created building instructions for how to build the (now obsolete) puck pick up mechanisms that I have used on the Workshop3D challenges. I have instructions for both geared and levered mechanisms. These are good examples of how you can use a (...) (22 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Challenge Ideas

Hi Nathan, (...) I like this idea. Another variation I have thought of is a "connect the dots" tracking. In this case the dots would be a fixed distance apart (maybe 3") and the direction could change by +- 90 (or less) degrees from dot to dot. (...) (22 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Challenge Ideas

I have a couple of ideas for a challege 1) Line tracking with occasional breaks in the line. The breaks could occur regularly after some distance and be of a given distance. 2) Find the "token". A round ring like the sumo ring. White with a black (...) (22 years ago, 23-Apr-02, to lugnet.org.us.smart)
