If you run it on a DCC loop, you could power it off the tracks, or, depending on
the power requirement, off a DCC decoder's accessory output. In the former case,
you could even use an RCX as a power conditioner

Now, put Ralph Hempel's DCC encoder software
(http://news.lugnet.com/org/ca/rtltoronto/?n=9394) on that RCX, and you can have
the remote "engineer" (or remote software) control the train (and switches,
crossing gates, other trains, etc)!
