Y'know, I think it might be a good idea for us to have a "business
meeting" - not a show for the public at the library, but maybe at
someone's home or a restaurant or something.  I'd like to have a
discussion about the meeting frequency, and also talk about some of
the other things we could be doing as a group. • [...]
I have several of my own ideas, but getting the right people together isn't very
easy. We are very spread out around the Bay Area and East Bay.

We have over 30 active members. How many of them would you expect to be at a
"business meeting"? Less than 10? If they are all active members, then they
would all have the right to be given an invitation. Finding a restaurant to have
all these people meet at that is in a central location might be harder than it
seems. Or we would need to find a member with a house large enough for everyone
to attend, and who is willing to have that many people over in the first place.
My little one bedroom apartment isn't nearly big enough. I think having a closed
door, windows closed, no visible sign of what's going on inside, member only
meeting for one hour before each and every quarterly meeting may be the easiest
way to go. Unless we all meet at your house!  :)

My house is too small, unfortunately, and we're still nto done moving
in.  Lots of restaurants have a "banquet area" that would be suitable
for a meeting of any size--though food and Lego are not a good
combination.

I agree that having a private meeting before the public is let in is a
good idea.  However, I think that if we met more often, on a smaller
scale, it would make it easier to develop a sense of community and to
be able to work on projects as a group.  I'm sure we're all
intelligent people and if we work on it, we could find a good
centrally-located venue.
