I think everyone had plans of building underground cutaways, mines, hidden fortresses and the like. But the problem I found with this, even with a side cutaway, is that it’s very dark. And I didn’t want to sacrifice Lego 9V grain bulbs to run all weekend...so I asked Mario to help me with this project. He wired up a total of 18 LEDs to light the station area. It’s non Lego, but I wanted a really warm, diffuse, incandescent light.

Looks awesome, Calum! I really love looking “underground” on train layouts, and this area will be a kid favorite for sure! And it’s a good thing that you decided to go against using LEGO lights-- they are practically worthless as illuminators. When we built our subway section, I had at least 20 of them hooked up and they hardly lit anything up at all (except me;-) We ended up going with LEDs and it was far better in every way (except the non-LEGO “violation”).

We also got some LEDs over in a small transformer room.

One thing, and this is just a suggestion: It’s nice when thumbs are made for us, the viewing audience, instead of imbedding full images. But it’s not commonly known how to do it (WRT BS images). I happened to learn about it by accident a few years ago. Adding a /thumb/ to the URL, along with a “_thumb.jpg” will convert them. So:

If you already knew that, but were just being lazy, then “Nevermind”;-)

Anyways, I hope you like it.

Really did. Looking forward to seeing it in Detroit!
