(...) So...here's the deal. Put your DSL router and attach the WAN port to the DSL modem. It will initiate the PPPoE connection with Sympatico and get an external IP address. (...) Well, that's the A in ADSL...it's asymmetric. The direction going to the computer is faster than the direction leaving, which is coincidentally the opposite of how a server would work.
