Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I can't say I blame you, this is a tough contest. My current read is Chris, Steve, Bruce, Derek, are entering this contest. Any more?! (...) The plate has to be something common and easily obtainable anywhere (ie, can't be your Aunt Martha's (...) (21 years ago, 31-Dec-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Rob, I'll offer, again: For anyone interested in building a robot, but not learning what alpha-beta means, I have stand-alone code for an RCX that will calculate the next move. All you need to do is scan the board and send (via IR) the (...) (21 years ago, 31-Dec-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I'm under the impression that most of the bots will be pretty similar in terms of hardware. Seems kind of pointless to build and not code. On that note, I completely rebuilt the top half of my bot the other day and got my 'worst case' scan (...) (21 years ago, 1-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I am building a robot. Whether I will enter the contest is another question entirely (I think I will). (21 years ago, 1-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

how sad is this....(are we) hours into a NEW YEAR, and we are surfing lugnet.... BTW, your 15 second time is nice. and your pattern makes sense as a bench mark. BUT that's only if you scan in the up, right, down, right, up right....... system..... (...) (21 years ago, 1-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I don't know, i think it's nice to read the groups stuff! It feels like a real community to me. Getting back from the downtown Young Street celebration with the masses and to arrive home and read comentary from good people you know is (...)   Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I know, I know. I really don't see the point in this though. (...) Sure, and I did. But there is nothing terribly interesting about the mechanics of a connect four robot anyway. I had a wild idea to make a rotary arm like Iain's viper to scan (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) like (...) to (...) Lego. I didn't have the heart to tell anyone that the reason our AS 206 SP machine has a 3:2 ratio is beacuse of the 24:16 tooth gears used on the original LEGO model. I never did make a LEGO model of the Side Entry (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Hmm... What if you did it with a 40 and 20? The spacing would be... wierd... 3 1/4 studs or something? You'd have to do it vertically, I guess, to get half of a half. (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) wierd... 40 and 20 teeth toothed pullies are the same ratio as we use in real life too :) (...) half (...) Sadly I don't think you can run a chain over the 20 tooth gears, if they're the ones I'm thinking of. :( Also, you can't mount them and (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Works well with 3 bricks vertical offset, 1 stud horizontal. There is also 12 + 24, but that suffers from a similar problem. The best I can come up with is 1 brick vertical, 2 studs horizontal, but there's a little too much play. (...) No, (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I noticed that. There's also this, which is a little snug, but if you're not a purist: (URL) (...) Nifty... hadn't thought of the old-school bevel gears. (21 years ago, 3-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, FTX)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) :) (...) I have used this combo in a planetary gearset to produce straight line motion. Remember the video clip I sent you? It works, and the Lego geometry is perfect, but as you said the backlash is pretty high. (...) Well, it was your (...) (21 years ago, 3-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Oh but there is... Remember the old style differential? I don't have one, but it defenitely has 28 teeth. Perfect for getting a 2:1 ratio with a turntable. I doubt the chain will fit over the crown teeth, but I might have to try. Otherwise, (...) (21 years ago, 3-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

But for a 16 stud long beam I don't think it'd work well at all. :( (...) the (...) If you mean like, for having a dish or (...) (21 years ago, 4-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
