  Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

(...) One small savings possible is that you do NOT need to jumper the outside rails! (think about it, they run through) So you can get away with a track power connector that connects to just the two inner rails... depending on whether you have more (...)   Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

(...) Not sure I agree. I left traditional MR because I prefer the resiliency of the brick and don't have a lot of interest in soldering any more... (...) I think this is a valid argument in the general case but fails in my case for two reasons: (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Track slope issues for Train2

Earlier there was some discussion about locomotives slipping (or possibly magnets disengaging) on steep slopes. My max slopes are as follows: Outer mainline: 1ppt Inner mainline: 2ppt Siding: 3ppt (1 brick per track) Right now I have a Locomotive (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Guarded Inn?

(...) I'd love for you to bring it so we all can bask in its glory. Although I won’t be there on Friday cause I work! I'm sure others would like seeing it… (...) I'm lookin’ forward to discussing BrickWarz with everyone interested at T2. I believe (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Ordering from the UK

(...) good point Rob... Thanks for the info...I didn't realize this was the case that the European shops (Lego Direct / Shop @ Home / etc) had sooo much better stuff in them. Of course, there is a draw-back....a lot of the harder to get, but newer (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: modules and update

I'll throw in my current status, too: I've got the materials for my 3 & 2-half modules, and they're cut to size, but I haven't assembled them yet. I've built the landscape (the hard part) for two of my three main modules, plus the two train (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

Having built a number of non-DCC reversing loops, I can tell you it's pretty straightforward to jumper using track power leads, as Larry suggests. It can get pricey if you're buying them from S@H, but I expect most trainheads have more leads and (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

(...) IIRC there are pads on the bottom of the frog where jumper wires that could be soldered onto. But the track connectors idea is very doable, it should work great. (...) If you wanted to start a side business of selling integrated decoder plus (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

(...) I wonder if there is a way to cheat? That is, use track connectors to jumper the power to the unpowered rail. I have to take a close look at a turnout when I get home this weekend to make sure doing that doesn't cause shorts but I don't think (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

(...) Two things discouraged us from using something like the DN140 (IIRC) he used. There's a shortage of them, and every Southern Ontario train dealer has them on back order, AND everyone seems to overvalue their price. As a result, each DCC (...)   Re: Guarded Inn?

(...) There are more than you think! I've taken this concept and attached my Throwbots, with the Life on Mars T3 Trike on the end of those, and there is a classic space craft that plugs into that! OK, those aren't castle sets, but they "fit". (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

(...) I'm no help on that... but I'm anxious to learn more about the project's progress when you guys have time to talk about it. I spent a bit of time talking with Tom Cook while at the fest, he showed me his installations. He's using a (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  modules and update

Ok here's the latest update from my perspective.... I have 2 modules completed (30 inch by 30 inch - each) I have 4 (other) modules cut out and ready to be put together....which should happen by this week. So looks like that scope of Train2 is ready (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Guarded Inn?

  Guarded Inn?

Has everyone gotten there Guarded Inns yet? I got mine on Friday. I never had or saw the original version of this set. The modular castle wall consept is interesting, but I couldn't find many sets that fit with it. Seems like an interesting idea (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Legends: METROLINER!

(...) I've been a way for the weekend, and it looks like I missed a doosy... I spent about $550 for 2 1/2 metroliner sets and 1 club car... looks like I'll have to wait for them to "officially come out" as they are still not on search or on the main (...)   Aaargh. L272 IC needed.

We've run into a little bit of a snag with Operation DCC. Mario has done up the TMW5 Booster board, but we're missing an IC for the decoder unit. It's the SGS Thompson L272, a dual power op amp in a DIP package. We need the L272M, the eight pin DIP (...) (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

RIS 1.5 at TRU in Canada

Whoo hoo-- Toys R Us here in London, Ontario seems to have slashed the price on the RIS 1.5 down to $199CDN (about $120USD). That's a 1/3rd reduction in price and almost as good as the $150 that Future Shop online had last year. Now, how do I (...)
