Re: A Very Special rtlToronto Project: Group Banner

(...) Isn't this pretty much the same as a tripod stand for a projector screen? (URL) which seem to retail for 100-200USD, brand new, with the screen. Someone must have an old one from home movies stuck in their garage that the stand could be (...) (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

A Very Special rtlToronto Project: Group Banner

Hey folks, Earlier this year I did a number of trade shows across the country. While I humped large pieces of foldable presentation fixtures from airport to hotel, minivan to show car, I noticed all the cool kids (damned marketing people!) were (...)   Re: What a trip I had to Markville!

(...) If you pick some up, you may want to know you can find out a little about what's inside in advance. There's a number stamped near the barcode on the tub. I think there are three possibilities. I'm not sure if all boxes with a single number are (...) (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, lugnet.org.ca, FTX)

(...) I agree with Rob. You’re either stacking blocks or you’re not. Pushing blocks is definitely lame. That said, it doesn’t really matter to me because at 8x8x8, I have no interest. (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) That's a neat set, that Mars Rover. Everytime I see the one I have built (I got a second for parts) I keep thinking about using those blue panel pieces for a spaceship or something. (...) So these 4679's are the weird ones with random pieces (...) (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, lugnet.org.ca, FTX)

(...) I say no. Pushing blocks around is lame. The purpose of the competition should be stacking blocks. Rob (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

What a trip I had to Markville!

You guys won't believe what I got from a trip to Markville Mall today! Couple weeks ago I picked up a Mars rover for $30 at the Walmart there, with a couple dozens around. Today I picked up another one. They now had 3 left after I'm out the door. (...) (20 years ago, 29-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, lugnet.org.ca, FTX)

(...) Well, I could have been adamant, but that would have disenfranchesed the voters--i mean the other competitors, and also figuring there was those that can't make a block stacking 'bot but wanted to enter--I was quite adamant that it was block (...)   Re: rtlToronto18 - new plan

Ok, I came up with a loophole over lunch. Here's a slightly new plan: 1) Fabulousi sequence for stacked blocks OF THE CORRECT COLOuR 2) +1 for blocks at home of correct coloUr 3) -1 for blocks at home of wrong coloUr See below... (...) (...) More flip flopping then John Kerry has been accused of on this one. I thought David said it's a block stacking competition, you should get points for stacking blocks. (...) Okay, I'll change it. (...) Assuming your roll of the global dice gives you that sample that's 1:1. You could come up lucky and get all your colour just for pushing them in.   Re: 8865 and 8475

(...) Once agian I made the mistake of using hte 'higher speed' one, just like the last robot event. IN the 8448 that was just fine, but these are bigger tyres and a heavier chassis, so it takes a little bit to get up to speed. You can barely see' (...) (...) Is it possible to make the blocks the other way: TILE BRICK PLATE ?? It makes it easier to handle the blocks as they don't have a significant concavity on the bottom that way. -Rob A> (20 years ago, 28-Oct-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Maybe one should start by asking all the people who have entered past block-stacking events... Then, ask Dave if grabbing a 2x2x2 cube is harder than a 4x4x4 cube (used in past events) From my experience, I'd say block stacking is NOT an easy (...) Sorry, I hate to keep beating this horse, but... (...) having a -1 for wrong blocks and +1 for right blocks should (in average) result in a value of zero for people who don't sort.
