Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) If it's too easy, why would you bother attempting a mechanical solution? I suspect you're actually trying to say it will be too easy to win the event, if you can build a mechanical solution. I would suggest most people will not be able to (...) (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) Based on the original concept, yes it would be a disqualification. I don't think it right to stipulate that you must detect the line. As I understand the game, the idea is to run down the track as fast as possible but be able to stop in the (...) (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) I was thinking about this too.... but what if we stipulate that the robot MUST use the black electrical tape finish line for detection, and NOT the table edge? What if the robot is going so fast when it crosses the finish line that some part (...) (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Well I just got around to entering all the sets I got at BrickFest into Peeron. My Goal for this year was to break 200 000 pieces. With my BrickFest purchases I achieved this goal. Totals: 720 Sets (357 unique), 200,904 Parts, 790 Minifigs. Now this (...) (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) Nothing. I'm saying it makes it too easy. If I find the time to do this contest, I'm going to attempt a mechanical solution no mater what the rule about hanging over the edge of the table is. But allowing edge detection instead of looking for (...) (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) What's wrong with allowing a purely mechanical solution? It would be MUCH easier to build an RCX controlled robot, but if someone can make one that's completely mechanical, wouldn't that be cool to see? Isn't that the point? (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

RE: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) I agree Derek. I just raised the question to avoid the possibility of a simple mechanical solution, as you have suggested :-) At one point, I thought about the problem of driving straight and detecting when the bot is just about to go over the (...)   Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) I would think this should not be allowed. If it is it changes the nature of the contest. What's the point in in having the lines across the table. The idea was you had to race down and stop within a certain distance, not race down and stop (...) (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) I say as long as it's over the line and doesn't fall off the table, that's good 'nuff Dave (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto17 Drag Racing Tentative Ruleset

(...) No, it doesn't have to physically turn around. I guess I shouldn't imply that. (...) Guys? Calum (20 years ago, 27-Sep-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
