Re: sometimes i hate the telly...

(...) I watched the PBS NOVA documentary about the MER rovers. It was heart warming, made me think of Brad Justus and want to buy the big Rover set and watch it explore the terrain of Basementis Koudys powered by Lego solar panels and an RCX filled (...)   Re: sometimes i hate the telly...

(...) You got to get the NASA channel. I spent last night watch JPL mission control during the MER landing, and today, my son & I will be building 7471 (a wonderful model, even if it doesn't have the unsprung suspension). I realized last night, (...) (21 years ago, 4-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) motion. (...) perfect, (...) I remember it, yeah! On that application it worked perfectly since the crank was so small. But for a 16 stud long beam I don't think it'd work well at all. :( (...) the (...) If you mean like, for having a dish or (...) (21 years ago, 4-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Oh but there is... Remember the old style differential? I don't have one, but it defenitely has 28 teeth. Perfect for getting a 2:1 ratio with a turntable. I doubt the chain will fit over the crown teeth, but I might have to try. Otherwise, (...) (21 years ago, 3-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) :) (...) I have used this combo in a planetary gearset to produce straight line motion. Remember the video clip I sent you?   Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) I noticed that. There's also this, which is a little snug, but if you're not a purist: (URL) (...) Nifty... hadn't thought of the old-school bevel gears. (21 years ago, 3-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, FTX)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Works well with 3 bricks vertical offset, 1 stud horizontal. There is also 12 + 24, but that suffers from a similar problem. The best I can come up with is 1 brick vertical, 2 studs horizontal, but there's a little too much play. (...) No, (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Sadly I don't think you can run a chain over the 20 tooth gears, if they're the ones I'm thinking of. :( Also, you can't mount them and (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) Hmm... What if you did it with a 40 and 20? The spacing would be... wierd... 3 1/4 studs or something? You'd have to do it vertically, I guess, to get half of a half. (21 years ago, 2-Jan-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: stop when it isn't fun anymore

(...) like (...) to (...) Lego. I didn't have the heart to tell anyone that the reason our AS 206 SP machine has a 3:2 ratio is beacuse of the 24:16 tooth gears used on the original LEGO model. (...) I know, I know. I really don't see the point in this though. (...) Sure, and I did. But there is nothing terribly interesting about the mechanics of a connect four robot anyway.
