Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?

(...) Urggghhhh......... My PowerBook dealer, Scott, told me I maybe can have a 500 mhz Powerbook G4 tomorrow if I want it! (assuming they materialize in the morning as expected.) I'm going to hold off until a 400 mhz model comes in. Ooh... (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?

(...) Whoops. My dealer (DataVision) called. Scott only needed 3 words: "I want it!" While I was picking it up, I got the sense that if I'd been a few minutes tardy it would have gone to someone else. Installing software......... (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?

(...) And what a nice machine you got. You never NDA'd me, so I can talk about your software? Steve (24 years ago, 20-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?

You can talk about my software, Steve... it's even on the web too. More of the this story: (...) Scott from Datavision called again today! "Everything ok there? I just received 4 or 5 of the 400mhz units. You know anyone waiting for one?" As a (...) (24 years ago, 22-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) I heard somewhere (I think it was a discussion group on a Mac fansite) that the 400 MHz units didn't play DVD's as smoothly as the 500 MHz units. I can't remember if that was on battery power or plugged in. My Vaio C1VN (powered by a 600 MHz (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Titanium PowerBook

(...) I guess I won't be able to test this from my position. (...) The other cool machine on sale! (...) Yup. It's $900 difference, for a faster CPU, +128mb SO-DIMM (not sure if separate chip), and +10gb disk. The last two items are about $100 each (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Titanium PowerBook

Oops. I looked closely at my experiment with Marc Atkin's movie, "2001: A Lego Odyssey". It's not so easy to compress. The Sorenson 2 video codec does ruin the quality. Maybe it would improve with the professional package -- the basic codec suffers (...) (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) Which, if you're a road warrior, you would leave home. People ask me why I drag out my laptop to listen to MP3s on the plane, when a CD player (or an MP3 player or minidisk player, Sony has one that is the size of a minidisk plus a very small (...)   Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) No, I use the one built into my laptop. Less to carry that way. ++Lar (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) Yeah, the guy across the aisle from on last week's flight from New York was watching "Midnight Cowboy" on his Vaio. Pretty Cool, if you're really jonesing for a personal inflight movie. Steve (24 years ago, 23-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) I've tried to cut back on launching poison darts... but it's hard. Very hard. My most effective weapon in project reviews is probably the acid pen, though. ++Lar (24 years ago, 27-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) But it's so messy. I use a laser pen, myself. Plus, you can turn down the intensity and use it as a pointer. ;^) ~Grand Admiral Muffin Head (24 years ago, 27-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) Properly equipped with physical weapons, any piker can inflict physical harm (did I just make a pun? Whoops). It takes real talent to use an acid pen, though, as the acid is virtual. Come to one of my project reviews some time (for a seriously (...) (24 years ago, 27-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Titanium PowerBook (was: Re: What if Steve Jobs ran The LEGO Company?)

(...) The acid pen is, if I'm interpreting Lar correctly, from the same class of weapon as the razor wit and the pointed review. :) James (24 years ago, 27-Feb-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)
