And what puzzled me the most was the cars being towed by the RV.  How
can you negotiate a turn with a vehicle hanging behind?  And why don't
all the rubber on the car hanging behind get torn off at every turn?
Or is there some kind of "magic" which turns the front wheels of the
car at the turns?

It's just the same as a big truck with a trailer.  Nothing turns the wheels on
the thing being towed, it just follows the thing pulling it.

Straying dangerously off-topic... this is something you can try at home kids!
Assuming you have at least 4 sets of wheels, a few longer bricks and a hinge :)

It's a perfect example of what some people call "Generica", a term for how
you can find the same things in all parts of the US.

Great term - thanks! :)

You can shop in a Gap and eat in a McDonald's in pretty much any city in
America.  Personally, I hate it.

I have to say that I've never shopped in the Gap, for a variety of reasons:

i) 'Khaki Pants' means something entirely different in toilet-humour drenched
UK. The Gap have mercilessly invaded UK culture with an annoying advertising
campaign, forever making the phrase "He wears khaki pants" not as amusing as
it once was.

ii) Again, the annoying adverts.. even when they aren't khaki, they are.

iii) Microserfs - claims GAP as the saviour of fashion-challenged geeks,
suggesting that a geek can go in.. buy anything.. mix them together and
thereby not have to think about their clothing choice. Admittedly, that will a
plus reason for a lot of people :)

(...) S'funny, I was thinking exactly the same thing as I typed. :D (...) You're welcome. Actually, I was shocked by the spread of Generica to Europe as a whole. Last April I was in two seperate Gap stores in Paris (not my idea...). (...) Eh? (...) (25 years ago, 20-Apr-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Yes, I thought of this as well. If all four wheels are directed the same way, you could pull it back and forth, but if you try to pull it from an angle (as would happen if you make a turn), you would get a lot of friction. Of course, cars (...) (25 years ago, 21-Apr-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) As far as I know, yes. There are some variations, though. My grandparents bought a bus (a Greyhound) and had it converted into an RV/Mobile home, and I'm pretty sure they had to have a different license for it. (...) It's just the same as a (...)
