Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) Actually, I'm not sure yet. I've spent more time coding than playing. Karen's top score is 6000-something so far, but I'm pretty sure one can get past that. Also, I think I'm going to add a timer. It's possible to do really well if you spend (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) yup... pretty different situation... if I ever need to touch a win box at work, it's usually to set up the network on it, or install something for a client. Never do any kind of development or even desktop use on it. yah, right now I have (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) be (...) be (...) au contraire. It's partly a style issue and partly a matter of the type of work you do, but I totally disagree, at least for me.   Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) while I used to use vi only in emergancies, I found that lately I use it (vim) almost exclusivly. Not really sure why, cause I did install emacs on my laptop... weird. (...) well, on windows you rarely actually need to edit text files... (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) Indeed. vi sucks... however I feel it's good to know since it is likely to be on every unix box you walk up to. My preferred editor (emacs) often has to be installed in order for me to use it. I feel the same way about notepad on Windows (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Took a few tries but here is what I got back (heavily excerpted, the person responding wasn't really having a good day and I wasn't helping matters much for him with my queries) (...)   Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) actually, I didn't know you could do that! the ability to start only one line is even better! :) now I'll have to try... (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) Right. Any editor that makes you be in a special mode to *edit* is fundamentally flawed. (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) You can *sort* of do this -- if the red line finishes while your black line is still going, you can start another red line. This is actually a pretty important tactic for getting high scores. It wouldn't be too hard to actually implement the (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) Both have cool properties, but the DIN A4, B5, etc. paper sizes are based on sqrt(2) because if you cut them down the longer side, each half retains the original aspect ratio -- perfect for 2-UP and 4-UP and saddle-stitching documents when (...)   Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) And the sixth dumbest thing is how vi makes a big deal about "all the most import keys are right on the home row", and then a) foolishly has your right hand shifted one key to the left of where it should be and b) makes you hit ESC a lot, even (...)   Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) I thought the DIN A4, B5, etc. paper sizes were based on the Golden Mean, not the square root of 2. Or are those two different flavors of the same universal constant? But your #3 item is just a variation of #1. Heck, so is #2. Earlier in the (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
