I'll nominate a fifth dumbest thing: contemporary use of QWERTY keyboards that
were originally designed to make typing slower and more difficult.

And the sixth dumbest thing is how vi makes a big deal about "all the most import keys are right on the home row", and then a) foolishly has your right hand shifted one key to the left of where it should be and b) makes you hit ESC a lot, even (...)
