Not quite...it is CN and BNSF.

:(  although, I can see why.  The Canadian railways have always had some US
feeder lines (CN owned CV and GTW (CN used to be GT :) ).  It makes sense,
since the 2 railways in Canada compete with each other, and then the US feeder
lines are doing poorly.(relativly)  It means that one company can (and will) be
able to direct trafic to most everywhere in North America by rail.  There will
still be enough competition, since I would imagine if this goes through, this
will open the door for the CPR to seek a US partner (most likely UP)(whoho!
More STEAM in Canada...CP has a Hudson undergoing repair right now!)

(CP is the 'private' railway, CN used to be public/crown corp...they never
should have sold it off...)

The big question remaining after this shocking news is, will BNSF+CN merge with CSX or NS, as those are the two remaining eastern roads. Whoever they go with, UP is sure to go with the other... at least that's the conventional wisdom in the rail (...) (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.off-topic.fun)
