  Million Mom March

Hi all, So this Million Mom March is getting quite a bit of press. I was listening to Diane Rehm again today and she had several organizers as guests for the second half of the show. I should've called in, but I was busy sanding lumber that will (...) (25 years ago, 12-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

The sound company I do work for on the side is doing the rally on Sunday. I'll be mixing the media feed, so if you catch any of it on C-SPAN or the networks, you'll hear some of my work :) (this is not meant to imply support for the rally's (...)   Re: Million Mom March

(...) Wow, another Diane Rehm listener... Do you also get Public Interest(with Kojo Namndi)? One of my daydreams is to meet Diane or Kojo on the metro and just get to hang out with them for a bit... .... i need better dreams. :) -chris (25 years ago, 13-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) to (...) Yeah, I do. I like both shows. Did you listen to Kojo's show today about the John Brown play and history? It was good. Chris (25 years ago, 13-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) 2 points on MMM. - it's so political it's not funny. Organised by the sister in law of Susan Thomases? Like that's grass roots. Please. - If they really wanted to do something about gun violence, more gun control laws aren't what is needed. (...) (25 years ago, 13-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

They say guns kill people? Please. I've never seen a gun, even a loaded (...) (25 years ago, 13-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Did you guys know Sarah Brady fonder of Handgun Control Inc. was qouted some years ago as saying, "Socialist America can not be realized until those who would oppose us have been totally disarmed."   Re: Million Mom March

(...) Wow. (...) Well, I don't think that it's that simple. For instance the MMM's main goal is to have universal registration federally organized. I think it is pretty clearly (mostly) possible to maintain a registry of weapons entering the nation (...) (25 years ago, 13-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Million Mom March

(...) carried (...) Why should that be limited to man-portable weapons. I disagree. Since the ponit of the 2nd is clearly to keep the citizens armed to the point where they can reject the government, then all ordnance available to the government (...)   Re: Million Mom March

(...) When the 2nd was written, cutting-edge weapons technology took about a minute to load a single shot. Today, how long does anyone realistically think that anything other than a phenomenally large group of organized, trained, private civilians (...) (...) Ignoring for a moment that this is the classic falacy of "slippery slope" reasoning, as well as the spectre of "nazi=forfeited argument," you've made a few compelling points. By the way, can you cite a web-reference for that translated Nazi (...) (25 years ago, 13-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Million Mom March

(...) You really think so, in today's infocentric society? Come on, you're smarter than that. If grocery stores keep track of our purchases through their stupid little "value" cards how hard do you think it would be for the government to pull (...)   Re: Million Mom March

(...) I had specifically envisioned a card that wouldn't leave a paper trail. Since it's for a limited time - say two months - it just affirms my right to purchase arms, and a dealer of arms would be able to sell to me without verifying anything. I (...) I guess that could be part of it, but my main thought was that the organization issuing the license would need to be sufficiently recognized as having good requirements, but maybe that's unworkable without something very specific.
