Hi all,
So this Million Mom March is getting quite a bit of press. I was listening to
Diane Rehm again today and she had several organizers as guests for the second
half of the show. I should've called in, but I was busy sanding lumber that
will become shelves tomorrow.
First, I'm sure most of you know that I disagree with their agenda. I am
likely the most radical 2nd ammendment protectionist here. But at the same
time, I commend their taking part in the democratic process. But they do
really irk me in some ways.
I resent their implication that they have some kind of monopoly on love of
children. At one point one of the guests asked a caller who opposed their
suggested gun control implementation if he had kids. When he answered in the
negative, she cut him off and told him that he could never understand what it
means to love another human as much as she did. This seems like a pompous
answer to me. I would have been very insulted had I been the caller - though I
agree to a certain extent (I do feel a whole new level of love for my son, that
I wouldn't have known existed before). One of the primary reasons that I feel
strongly about gun rights is because of the love for my child(ren). I refuse
to leave them helpless against a tyranny. My son will have the same rights
that I do, and hopefully they will be respected more.
They also seemed very divisive. Some of the guests kept referring to "the
other side" which seems foolish. Building a concensus of some kind seems like
the only hope they have of "progressing."
I was just frustrated, as I often am, hearing bad logic and ignorance touted as
obvious truth and fact.
