I am serious about our playground fights. I do call him Timmy (from South

sergeant.

Pretty sure you called me Timmy first but it really is unimportant.
|
Anyone that was a soldier will know the real meaning of this rank
(actually I was a First Sergeant, huge difference).
|
And Im a Doctor if you want to be precise but Ive never gone on about it
like you have about your rank.
|
I did not go on about, but did not hide the fact. I mention it in my Lugnet
page. I mention it and do not feel any need to hide it. I also have never
mentioned what by graduate degrees are in. As for you being a doctor, so are my
kids. My daughter is a DO and a Major soon to be a LTC in the Army, My son is a
PA Captain and has served two rotations in Iraq and one in Haiti.

His use of the term in
this fashion deprecates the rank and lacks respect (as in poking fun at me)
to the others that have held or hold this rank and shoulder the
responsibility.
|
This is the main reason I wanted to respond.
I am not doing this to disrespect active soldiers or the rank. I may not
always agree with the reasons for wars but I give my respect to the bravery
of people in the armed services. Any rudeness from calling you sergeant is
intended only at you the individual and not at the rank or soldiers in
general.
|
you finally admitted to some rudeness. It is like saying Kill all the
lawyers, few would strip away the nuances of that statement saying it does not
apply to all lawyers, just you.
|
|
I do not expect him to respect me and I know he does not, but
it is a moniker of respect, not something to be ashamed of when used in the
correct fashion.
|
The correct fashion is while serving in the armed services or being addressed
formally outside it.
|
Here you are totally wrong. When you are retired from service you are refered
to as your last rank. You can see this on CNN and Fox news when they have their
retired Generals or Colonels commenting. The mail I get from the VA or from the
Army is always addressed to 1SG. One never outlives their rank. You were
thoughtless here and took the easy way out. I just think that you could belittle
me in a different way. When meeting with troops at Ft Bliss I am always
introduced as First Sergeant wheather it is by a private or a general. And this
was for your information.
|
|
In the world situation we live, Tim should pick his words
better when trying to torment me. Too many young men and women who are
sergeants are making unimaginable sacrifices today.
|
If I was referring to one of them in the situations I mention above I would
use the correct capitalised form to refer to them. I am not so I do not.
|
I do find it strange
that no one else pointed this out as you did on my use of Timmy. John is
what I clearly prefer. John P

Tim - I think that it should be left here. I was answering Richie anyway.
