I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

Just as I can't yell "Fire!" in a theatre causing undue panic, when there was no fire, Dubya cannot yell "Clear and imminent danger" and incite us into a "terror driven frenzy" which caused the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, untold (...)   Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) Apathy on the part of hopeful americans and back-peddalling on the part of the president -- with everyone behaving like the members of a dysfunctional family until all the annoying skeletons in the closet just go away... Under-Fire President (...) (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) A weapons programme and WoMD are not the same thing. Canada has a weapons programme somewhere, I'm sure--our armed forces must have some sort of hardware for their job. Telling a country that they can't have a weapons program?? Telling Iraq (...) (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) UN res 1441, among others. (...) Actually, I think that is precisely the reason. JOHN (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) No, the WoMD was--there was nothing in the res. that said that Iraqi's couldn't have, say, a factory producing bullets and rifles and such--that's a weapons program... To deny a country the right to defend itself is just ludicrous. Dave K (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) "and such", such as ballistic missiles (Scuds)? (...) If defense is the actual intent. Iraq was an aggressor, and to characterize it, especially with SH at the helm, as anything but is just ludicrous. JOHN (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) The missile in itself won't be much of a weapon without a powerful warhead. A SCUD armed with 1 ton of TNT will do less damage than a "daisy cutter" or similar ordnance. (...) Technically, since the previous armistice (1991) Iraq did not (...) (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) Yeah, I seem to recall an arms buildup in "aggressive" Iraq to go invade the US... oh wait, it was the opposite. Iraq wasn't agressive at all--it was the US agressiveness--politically, economically, and militarity--agressive on all (...) (21 years ago, 11-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) No, it was Iraq invading Iran AND Kuwait. Busy, busy. (...) What is the cost? Didn't cost you a thing. We paid for it, and gladly so. The price for freedom was relatively cheap IMO. Consequences? Millions have been liberated? You have a (...) (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

In lugnet.off-topic.debate, John Neal wrote: <snip> (...) You're going to bring up something that happened in "the last millenium"? And didn't Dubya's Pappy, with the world backing him up, mind you, take care of that? And did 'aggrassive' Iraq do (...) (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) Is that supposed to be a joke? (...) No he didn't. He should have carried right on to Baghdad and deposed SH then. But he didn't have the guts. Big mistake. On his defense, he abided by the UN charter. As I said: big mistake. (...) Thanks to (...) (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) How ignorant... No it won't. You believe that crap that Dubya's been telling you? Terry (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) That's a huge assertion John - as we've hardly even begun to see all the consequences yet. ROSCO (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) Consequences? We've hardly seen the final outcome! Maybe regime change in the U.S. will bring our young men and women home. -- Hop-Frog (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: I think the 1st Ammendment was broken

(...) Yup. And one which only time will tell. It was done in Nazi Germany and imperialist Japan; it can be done again today. JOHN (21 years ago, 12-Jun-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
