Re: Why is cockfighting bad? (was: Pokemon (was: Harry Potter Lego Line))

(...) You are right, it is not germane. :-) Or to put it another way: you go hunting with a nuke? I don't see how the "right" (need, whatever) to use nukes relates to killing some animal for food (which is what this was about). It's a weird tangent (...)   Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

I never read Kingdom... since the art wasn't by Alex Ross :^D I thought it was supposed to be a prequel to Kingdom Come? ~Mark (24 years ago, 25-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

(...) Not officially- not even on video! I have seen some stills (one SGI developer's kit had a shot of the Human Torch using a fireblast to deflect some sort of beam, and there was at least one other) but that's all. I have talked to a lot of (...) (24 years ago, 25-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

(...) Was that ever released? I saw some production notes a few years ago, and it looked terrible! Up until X-Men, Marvel was entirely unable to make a superhero screen adaptation that wasn't awful, so it's nice to see a change at long last. I think (...)   Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

(...) Yeah, this is the place for stuff like this. I usually don't even read it, but I'm willing to brave the wilds to talk about comics. :D (...) Yeah. Liefeld... I'm not a big fan of his work. If I'm not mistaken, Liefeld is also responsible for (...) (24 years ago, 25-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

(...) <snip> (...) Then you should probably know that Ross actually wrote the basic story behind Kingdom Come. In fact, the reason he refused to take part in the sequel "Kingdom" event (written wholly by Mark Waid) is that "Kingdom" ignored some of (...) (24 years ago, 25-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

Eric You make some excellent points and are obviously a huge comic book fan (which I commend). Being rather new to LUGNET I wasn't sure where my follow up message would be posted but it was nice that it ended up in this "off topic" area. This area (...)   Re: Why is cockfighting bad? (was: Pokemon (was: Harry Potter Lego Line))

Hmm, just a random potshot here. (...) If what defines us is our use of tools and our ability to manipulate the environment instead of just react to it, both of which are due to our ability to reason in a self aware manner, how are a club and a (...)   Re: Why is cockfighting bad? (was: Pokemon (was: Harry Potter Lego Line))

(...) Essentially. One is at an extremely basic level, the other is not. Inferring too much from them as a matching set is fraught with hazards. Best to make the point with some other example. Bruce (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Why is cockfighting bad? (was: Pokemon (was: Harry Potter Lego Line))

(...) Major snippage thoughout - not because the discussion points were unworthy, but that it got to be too sprawling and too conuterproductive to the main theme. (...) I was talking about ME, not you. You snipped my explanation of such. :-) (...) (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Why is cockfighting bad? (was: Pokemon (was: Harry Potter Lego Line))

(...) I'm only offering a quick $.02, since this isn't my branch of the debate, but I'm perceiving a miscommunication of intent here. I think Bruce's assertion is that the biological need for food and the need for the means to acquire food have (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

Just to help you out a bit, the least expensive course for you would be to get the Kingdom Come graphic novel by Mark Waid with art by Alex Ross (my hero). It's available pretty cheap on amazon.com. The story basically deals with a future earth (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

(...) That's what lugnet.off-topic.debate is for. :D (...) Ah. Well, ok, that is very different from "non-violent". Even so, there are certainly comics that *are* very violent (see Garth Ennis' current 12-part Punisher storyline)- but they actually (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Building the A10 Thunderbolt "Warthog"

Um, not to be a pain, but I don't think this discussion belongs in lugnet.off-topic.debate... It probably doesn't belong in lugnet.starwars anymore either (and does it really need to be in lugnet.general?) Follow-ups to: lugnet.admin.general (I wish (...)   Re: Violence in comics (was Re: A General Question About Castle World)

Eric While I hate to continue this discussion on Comic Books here, for lack of anywhere else to go I will. I am well aware that Captain America is hardly "non-violent", yet I can also say that in the many years I've been reading his comics I can (...) I also recal a story from somewhere, maybe a class, where some (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
