Re: What do other parents do with Lego guns?

(...) Doh--forgot about them! As for the smoke cannister--I think I'd rather get shot with a fat, low-velocity cylinder than a conventional bullet... Or at least I suppose I would--they'd both probably hurt like heck! Dave! (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: What do other parents do with Lego guns?

(...) To further nitpick your nitpick, I thought he kneecapped three of those SWAT guys and hit the last one in the back with the smoke-canister launcher. But your point is well made. It's been a while since I've seen T2. (...) I too had toy guns, (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  help with brickShelf

I'm trying to get some pictures onto BrickShelf for the first time but nothing is working. I've tried everything I know and I have not found any places on BrickShelf that tells me how to use the place. Can one of you experienced BrickShelfers out (...)   Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) My replies: First, how can we each keep our moral spheres to ourselves? When you and I interact, or when anyone interacts, for that matter, the interactions are governed by our moral spheres of understanding regarding how the other person (...) (...) making (...) And that, my friend, was the start of this whole post. I don't buy the sets with what I consider "dark" minifigs, i.e. UFO, Insectoid, whatever the aquazone baddies were called, etc. I believe it was a big mistake that alienated (...) (...) is used (...) divorce (...) Maybe it isn't... but "moral spheres" are very _personal_ spheres. Your spheres might be differently shaped than mine. It's best if we all keep our spheres to ourselves. ~Mark (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) I mostly agree with you on this point. Customs regarding modesty can genuinely differ across cultures, and be influenced by climate, history, etc. A topless woman can be attired just as modestly, given the right circumstances, as another woman (...)   Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) Based on my experiences: no. Crayon Shinchan - a popular kids' cartoon a few years back, sort of a Japanese 'Dennis the Menace' - had plenty of nudity (male and female - animated, but still) and sex jokes. Wandering the streets of Osaka, I (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) Hmmm...how young are kids that play with Barbies again? (...) Nice job turning the question around, but I don't think that's the right way to ask it. After all, what *is* appropriate about putting a baby doll that wets itself into the hands of (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) I think this is an excellent point, but I think there is a difference between the sexual messages that American kids experience, and the ones that European cultures do. You use the word 'pornography', which I interpret as material that is (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) Nor is it Lego's job to conform to your ideals. If I felt that Lego was making something that was against my beliefs on what toys should be, I wouldn't buy them. Jeff (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) And America is a prudish country how? Granted, one only hears suggestive nuances on network TV, but how many households have cable? How many people have access to pornography? Virtually all of the people that I have known who have had a (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) I agree. That's why I just sold all my animal SPUDs on eBay. I didn't demand that Lego conform to my own standards of what their toy should be, I just solved the issue in a way that worked well for me, and for another person, who is probably (...)   Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) The same goes for one piece palm trees and juniorized parts. Don't you dare disagree openly about anything lego does. What do you think this is, a user's group? It's not Lego's job to make toys for you adults. Markus (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: What do other parents do with Lego guns?

(...) I don't know of anyone here in Lugnet which I feel I know them well enough to understand their stance on guns, who would feel that way. (...) One curiousity which came to mind. How many of you are comfortable with child play which involves (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) No, no, it was obvious to me that *you* were kidding. But someone else, somewhere in this thread, suggested it - seriously, I think. And that kinda ticked me off, I forgot about it 'til I saw your post, and then let it all out. Sorry. ;-) No (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: legos biggest mistake is...

(...) You have not explained how or why an open expression of sexuality is inherently better than "prudishness;" you've merely said that you agree with Europeans instead of Americans. That's fine, but why? Why should we not err on the side of (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
