From the New Republic: A Argument for a New Liberalism

Being against the war in Iraq does NOT mean being for Totalitarian Islam. Or, why Kerry lost and why Michael Moore is still a weenie... From The New Republic, specifically here: "A Fighting Faith (AN ARGUMENT FOR A NEW LIBERALISM.) by Peter Beinart (...) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Just say no

(...) Okay, now that *is* pretty ridiculous, and they're succumbing in real, large-scale terms to the false dichotomy you identified. Outside of your direct experience, most of what I've heard has defaulted to "we have rules that apply to everyone (...) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Just say no

(...) Which is what I favor. And what I think Buckley favors too, although it would surely be harder to convince you of that than me. He's a knee jerk old school conservative but even stopped clocks are right twice a day (well, once a day if they're (...) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Just say no

(...) As long as the threat profile is reasonably specific and based on sound policy, rather than "I think that guy looks Arabish/let's frisk him," which is what Buckley's describing. Here's the part where he plays his hand: "The point is not (...) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Just say no

(...) Seems pretty clear to me (1). He's asking why make things easier for the hordes of people that clearly are little no threat whatever in order to be a bit less PC to people that fit the threat profile more closely? Quoting from the part you (...) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Just say no

(...) Not sure what Buckley's driving at, honestly. Any article that cites anything "wonderful" about an Ann Coulter book surely qualifies as delusional from the get-go, but of course I'm not one to dismiss an argument simply because its proponent (...)   Just say no

Or, what do common sense and US government policy have in common? (URL) very little! (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Last time for this, then post whining elsewhere (was: Re: I must leave...)

(...) Well, that's very good Kevin, you found what happened here on Lugnet. And, that is where it started. If I had not deleted the e-mails, I would post some words from them. Those e-mails are not here on Lugnet, but were in my e-mail account. I am (...) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Appreciating what TLG and Lego Direct have done for AFOL's

Hello! (...) Sort of. (...) You must be mistaking me for somebody else. I am the guy who starts a posting with "hello" and closes it with "bye". And who are you? Bye Jojo (URL) (20 years ago, 17-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

  Re: I must leave...

(...) Then don't. Ignore it - that's what he was saying. (...) So leave. I don't know you, haven't ever corresponded with you as far as I know. But Adrian was right on, first in putting this in .debate, where it belongs, and second on calling your (...) (20 years ago, 16-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: I must leave...

Adrian, I really hate to start anything, but this behavior that you have exhibited in front of all of your peers (and the world, this being the world wide web), Is just the kind of immature, "I'm trying to start something" that is being disscused in (...)   Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) I really have been thinking of not replying to this until I read your response. Now I think you should listen up. As someone who has borrowed from designs, and had my designed modified and borrowed as well, I don't mind someone doing that (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) Actually, this is not true. Why just the other day I saw both strip to the waist and fight like psuedo-men....sort of 'Fight Club' meets 'Gamesters of Triskellion'. Well....fight like slightly perturbed kittens, anyway. (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) I would like to add some clarification on this: A curator is someone who provides upkeep to a particular newsgroup, such as keeping the sidebar links up-to-date, etc. This position carries no particular authority, except as a bully pulpit.   Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) So... what you are saying is that you first appropriated their designs... THEN waited for them to notice... THEN gave them credit? Isn't that like stealing something, waiting for the victim to notice the theft, then giving the victim credit (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) Yes, sculptures are covered by copyright, and there are also some artist rights, retained by the artist even after selling the sculpture and all copyrights to it. Design Patent protection is not automatic, and it's expensive and has a limited (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) Independant discovery is a defense that works for copyright violation, including copyright protection of design. The problem here is that if you are defending an infringement suit, you have to prove that you didn't have constructive access to (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: Custom Space: Obsidian Stealth Strike Craft for sale - The Brickee Mart

(...) I'm obviously not an IP lawyer. My impression is that Lucasfilm owns the copyrights to the image/design of an X-wing. Lego could not produce a kit that resembles anything like an x-wing without first obtaining Lucas's permission. Likewise I (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) more snip-age (...) Thanks for the info. I guess I was considering that a moot point since neither one of them had obtained the film company's permission first. I think that is something worth discussing since to achieve the end result of a (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
