  Re: Capital Ideas

(...) Simply moronic. The government *claims* all sorts of things. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong, and sometimes there are some evil people with a hidden agenda. It has nothing to do with "conservative" or "liberal". It has to do (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

(...) Eh? I think Schuler is a U.S. guy -- this means he is a citizen of the country with this particular controversy. And while we do talk Lego here, this is off-topic.debate, which gives Schuler some latitude. And that last part -- well, you (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Now pardon me, but I live in Kentucky USA, and find that the issue of the Pledge of Allegiance being Religeos is a big issue that is important. I agree with the courts decision. The use of that pledge, as it is written today was used in my (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I cannot believe that this discussion board, Lugnet, has become an place for antidisestablishmenttarians to comment on what is going on in other people's countries, and describe their mental high on an issue that is controversial. We talk about Lego (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

(URL) For the life of me I can't imagine why this never happened before, but I'm delighted by it. Dave! (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) I agree! Either we have a case and should try him, or we don't have a case and should release him (after implanting a GPS tracking device, of course...) (...) Well, sure! I'd just like them to be consistent in their particular flavor of (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Capital Ideas

(...) Yeah, I can't see why Padilla can't be given his rights, due process, equal protection, trial by jury for treason, right to appeal, and then hung upside down by the short-hairs until he is dead either... I mean, the guy is an american however (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) And correlation doesn't equal causation, except when convenient for one's agenda! 8^) (...) A tangential but related point: On Saturday I chanced to hear some of the Mike Reagan radio show on which Mike (with typical, laser precision) (...)   Re: Galidor is overpriced!

(...) As someone who has been a HUGE fan of the Fox Network since its inception, I have to heartily disagree with your declaration that Fox has "never really" had "anything worth watching". While your statement could be read as a blanket dismissal (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Capital Ideas

(...) Excluding Texas would probably work to his advantage: I believe Texas has the highest murder rate along with the highest execution rate. Either capital punishment has little effect, or Texas would soon be laid waste without it (one must test (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Capital Ideas

(...) I expect there are a great deal of studies which prove it works, and just as many which prove it does not. Personally, I think that is irrelevant. I oppose it as: a) I think it is immoral. b) Justice is always subject to human error. c) I (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Capital Ideas

(...) Me too. I always understood that most murders were committed by husbands boyfriends, fathers, step-dads etc? On the broader subject of the death penalty, I think it is good that the US has finally decided to stop executing criminals "learning (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Capital Ideas

(...) I'd want to see some stats on that. I think you can construct an argument the other way too, that once you've crossed the line and are now a good candidate for that penalty, nothing is going to stop you from committing further crimes.   Re: Capital Ideas

In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Dave Schuler writes: Can anyone verify this (...) Can't help you there, but here's an interesting argument regarding capital punishment- Most murders occur in conjection with other crimes (theft, rape, etc). If a criminal (...)   Capital Ideas

Here in sunny Western PA we have a disturbing abundance of far-right demagogues on the radio, all of whom place the blame for all the ills of society--from the possibility of a dirty bomb to the heartbreak of psoriasis-- squarely upon Liberals. I (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Poll: Majority Palestinians See Israel's Elimination as Goal

(...) I read a couple of quotes the other day that I thought made a great postscript to this post: In early '48 it was questioned why Israel had no land in the Jerusalem area, this was Ben-Gurion's answer: "The war will give us the land. The concept (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
