Also, on a more immediate note, it would really suck to have spent a few
hours building part of a model only to have it crumble in your hands when
you have to clear off the table for the evening meal.

Well, thats indisputable.

This same thing happened to me with another clone brick: Best-Lock.
I remember being up until 3am building the set with the space shuttle and
crawler. When I tried to lift it off of the bed to go to sleep, the crawler
fell apart in my hands. It took four more tries and another 45 minutes to get
if off my bed. In the morning it fell apart again, so I threw the pieces back
into the box. And I havent touched it again since.

Yeah, I picked up a few Best-Lock sets on deep clearance at Target a while back.
They dont have anywhere near the clutch power of LEGO or MEGABLOKS, I think
because they use a studs-and-slots system rather than studs-and-tubes. Its a
shame, because Best-Lock uses a pretty good plastic, and their set designs are
quite clever. I have almost no use for them, though, because of the clutch
problems and because theyre not 100% compatible.
Man, Best-Lock was such a disappointment. I remember the excitement on RTL when
the news of this brand
first hit the scene. Too bad the product wasnt equal to the excitement it
generated.
Dave!
