Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview —Kevin Salm
(...) Perhaps the lack of sales of trains with LEGO's target markes is because THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW LEGO TRAIN EXIST!! In the USA, train sets have been available at standard retail outlets only sporatically ever since the introduction of Lego trains (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.market.theory, FTX)

(...) Dealing with a mall can be tricky. Often they are owned by companies that have several malls in an area. They often only accept larger deals, in which a chain has to commit to put a store/play area in EACH of those malls. Also, having a Lego (...)         Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview —John Riley
(...) OK, so let's be realistic: most retailers (especially the big three toy retailers in the US: TRU, Wal-Mart, and Target) are not going to sell Lego trains year-round; trains tend to be strictly a holiday purchase, and otherwise languish on the (...)      (...) should be pushing those lines which aren't carried at the big boxes, like Mindstorms and trains. My impression is that the independents are forced into carrying certain lines in any contract with Lego, and those lines aren't liked by the (...)      (...) Lines? I'd heard that restriction had been lifted, at least partially, but that maybe there was still a restriction on assortment within a line. I would love it if even the LEGO brand retail stores would be allowed to order what sells... more (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) Jake would know for sure, but I do believe there is a North American LEGO fullfillment option called the Small Retailer Program. I don't know anything about it but I suspect that product actually comes from LDMI (Shop At Home). Perhaps the (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview —Ed McGlynn
(...) The Small Retailer Program does exist, and retailers can get access to a subset of the LDMI item list. People at LEGO's SRP are very willing to work with retailers, but there are still S@H exclusives, I believe, that small retailers can't (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview —John Riley
(...) If those are the only restrictions, I wonder why more shops don't use this program? There are some anecdotes that suggest that the old retailer program was designed for the big box stores, and thus many small retailers swore off Lego. If (...)         Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview —Maggie Cambron
(...) I don't think it's missed market opportunities but the nature of the product. Most kids who want a train set want something they can set on the track right out of the box and don't want to have to mess with building the train first. So by its (...)
