Custom kit pricing is indeed very difficult. I try to price mine just under the 20c/piece mark, but I am producing mostly Town buildings where there are a lot of plain bricks and plates. (...) Honestly, to me - .35 to .50 per piece is outrageous unless there is something REALLY special about it, and even then. I think keeping a custom set price within the .20 per piece range is the best bet for giving people a good value for their (...) I read a similar article in another publication about a month ago and it upset me then. I think it was in Newsweek. Anyway, it upset me because the reporter must have been an idoit! Arguably, WalMart and Target are just getting their revenge on TRU etc. After all, companies like TRU are known as "category killers" whose business model of having the largest range of products in some category, and is antithetical to the "variety (...)
