I once (politely) complained to a Best Buy employee about their fondness for
rebates.  He agreed, and said that customers claim only about 40% of possible
rebates.  On one level that irks me, but in another sense I am glad to have that
60% subsidize lower prices for cheapskates such as myself who are willing to
jump through the extra hoops for the rebates.

On a somewhat-related topic, I read that US$4 billion goes unclaimed each year
in store gift cards and credit vouchers and reverts back to the vendors.  I
wonder how many rebate dollars go unclaimed each year?
