   Hi all,

I’ve been commissioned to build a LEGO sculpture for the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, and I have no clue what to charge for my services. I’ll be getting the whole thing (unglued) back afterwards, so I feel I can’t charge full price for materials, and I’ll be spending a day (April 29th, for those who want to stop in) building it onsite, but again I don’t know what to charge.

Here’s a thought: do it for free. After all, this is a hobby and it sounds like it would be a fun event. The exposure and publicity would be a form of compensation too.

Altho I respect the idea of doing it for free, if you decide that route be sure to make sure the Museum does re-imburse your expenses like gas, food, etc. Doing stuff for free is good, but doing it for expense (ie, you have to pay to be there) isn’t good, and it won’t hurt them that much to pay for minor stuff like gas and food.

But honestly, I’d recommend asking for pay - if you do it for free, they’ll think perhaps you’ll do it for free next time. Asking for money will let them know that what you’re doing is some trouble to yourself, and will make them respect it more.

But either way, congrats on the gig!
