I guess I'm lucky. My local TRU got all of the available studio and Mars
sets currently available. No new Star Wars yet though.

I like 7314. It looks good, has a nice selection of pieces, and was fun to
put together. I'll probably get 7313 next, since the two seem to be a
matched pair. I was seriously eyeing the 'scorpion' mech, but decided I
didn't want to spend the $50 yet.

The 'scout' is armed with a flamethrower on the right hand and a claw on the
left. The claw is an entirely new set of pieces (as far as I know). A rubber
band snaps the hand shut, and it has a large gap for grabbing large items,
and a small circular hole so that it can hold mini-fig tools. For detail,
the mech actually has a fuel tank on the back for the flamethrower!  The
upper arms of the mech also sport fire insignias. Not the most peaceful of
scouts. The color scheme is red, dull pink, and gray.

New pieces include a new type of hose, the claw, canopy, and the alien, also
some new deco on older pieces.

Lego is certainly getting the maximum use out of this click-hinge system.

My only complain about the model is that the legs really aren't too
pose-able. You can pose them, but not in a dramatic manner. The only thing
they really do is fold up for the hover/flier reconfiguration.

On the plus side, it's nice to see Lego is finally making a theme that is
100% interchangeable. Both the front and back of the leg unit has holes for
pins. The tank uses the pins to snap onto the back of the cockpit. Looking
at the pictures, most of the larger human and alien sets support the same
connections, and it looks like the alien walkers might all have the same leg
height (probably even the same basic leg structure). Plus the set comes with
a pin connector so you can make links you might not be able to without it!

My biggest complaint about the line would be that it looks like some of the
astronaughts have helmets only, and nothing resembling breathing tanks.

Other than that it's a cool line with a pretty distinctive look. Seeing that
solid mass of red on the shelves was pretty cool.

The photos on the back of the manual are mock-ups and NOT the final boxes
(the box with ?? pcs is a big hint). The piece counts are not accurate. I
bought 7314 tonight and it has 194 pieces (according to the box).

Hey, how do you like the 7314, I picked up 7313(blue mech).  7314 wasn't
available in NJ yet.  Haven't built it yet but I find it funny that
different sets are popping up in different locations at the same time.

(...) Could be worse: the Classic Space minifigs had tanks, but no faceplates. You have to wonder how long their air supply lasted under those conditions... Ran (24 years ago, 20-Nov-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)
