I worked for Tandy for nearly five years. They asked address information, and
in fact if your percentage was below 90% of customers giving information, they
were liable to discipline or terminate you. My percentage was nearly 98%--it's
weird how many people just give the information.
When asked for my zip code, I give them my postal code from the UK--the machines
aren't set up to take foreign postal codes. "SW7 9EB." "What?"
I like the "are you giving me a discount?" tack better, though. At least it
explains the why.

| (...) When asked for a zip code, I usually give them a zip code that is obviously a lie - such as 90210 (as in Beverly Hills 90210). That generally pisses off the cashier, but I have never been accused of lying when I've used it (in Iowa and (...) (25 years ago, 25-Jan-00, to lugnet.market.shopping)
