I believe the reason for the zip code inquiry is to target areas for direct
mail flyers and newspaper advertisement... if you only have 5% of your
customers coming from a large remote area do you want to spend as much putting
a suppliment in their paper as an smaller area that you get 35% of your
traffic from?
As for the phone number... that may be fine for Domino's Pizza so they know
it's not a prank call against Caller ID and that I want my usual
order/delivery address, but I don't think the local hardware is going to bring
me a box of nuts and bolts so they get the "It's unlisted..." which it is.
