Consistency: if people aren't permitted to make eBay announcements on
BST, why should they be permitted to make BrickBay announcements?
After all, both have their own .market.* groups.

eBay announcements don't belong in .BST because they are auctions, not
because they are on eBay.  This point, atleast, has been cleared up by Todd
many times in the past.

Pretty much, though the logic is somewhat twisted to some minds (a "For
Best Offer" sale which is worded that way not as "Sealed Bid Auction"
belongs in BST).

I personally would love to see a re-organization of the market
hierarchy. I would love to see something like:

lugnet.market.auction (meta-group only)
lugnet.market.auction.ebay
lugnet.market.auction.other
lugnet.market.auction.discussion
lugnet.market.brick-shops (meta-group only)
lugnet.market.brick-shops.brickbay
lugnet.market.brick-shops.other
lugnet.market.brick-shops.discussion
lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade
lugnet.market.shopping (meta-group only)
lugnet.market.shopping.announce
lugnet.market.shopping.discussion
lugnet.market.appraisal
lugnet.market.services
lugnet.market.shipping
lugnet.market.jambalaya
lugnet.market.jambalaya.announce
lugnet.market.discussion

The idea would be that any discussion other than actual information
advertising an offer be in a .discussion group. buy-sell-trade would be
limited only to posts which don't belong anywhere else. .shopping would
be limited to announcements of sales and new release finds at retail
establishments (some things would be on the line between a brickshop and
a retail establishment. In my mind, DYA is a retailer. Perhaps part of
the distinction would be if the shop sells stuff other than LEGO, but
mostly is dependent on the proprietor not really being a fan [but finds
at The Construction Site belong in .shopping even though the proprietors
may well be fans]). .shipping could be combined into .services (shipping
is just a market related service after all and volumes in both groups
are low). I like lugnet.market.discussion better than
lugnet.market.theory since it more clearly indicates that any general
discussion about marketing belongs there, not just higher thinking.

I expect lugnet.market.other would be very low volume, but the result
would probably be that those running auctions any place other than eBay
would get a lot more exposure. With the low volumes of non eBay auctions
now, there is definitely no problem with auction updates being posted
here (a couple years ago I wanted a separate group, but that was when
.auction was dominated by auction updates, now almost no one uses
anything other than eBay to run auctions).

FUT: lugnet.market.theory
